FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Little Gems Moonstone makes his 2011 debut.

Today's Date -- March 19, 2011

Ellis County Equine Association held its practice show today and Little Gems Moonstone made his debut under saddle.  As has been the case with him he took it all in stride.  He showed that he was up to the task by taking 3rd place in Green Horse Trail and 2nd in Green Horse Western Pleasure.

Perhaps the most remarkable part of this feat is that he did this at just a week after turning two years old.  Little Gems Moonstone, known as Moony, performed to a level that some older horses were not challenged to.  During his first event under saddle, Green Horse Trail, he encountered an obstacle that he had not been trained on.  This was the rope gate.  Karen talked him through even when he was noticeably confused as to exactly what he was supposed to do.  Once that task was complete, and he did after several moments catch on, he ran the rest of the course without a single error.

In the second event, Green Horse Western Pleasure, his stops, transitions and turns were nearly perfect.  The only problem encountered was in the clock-wise lope when Karen's foot came out of the stirrup.  "It is a good thing I like to ride bare back more than with a saddle," Karen said after the event.  "All I did was hold my position like there wasn't a saddle."  There was little that one could see during the miss-cue other than Moony turning a little wide on one corner.

The next show will be at Mystic Acres in Terrell, Texas on March 2.  More competitors are expected then, but Moony will be up to the task at hand.
