FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Three of Little Gem Ranch's Horses Make Their Halter Futurity
October 15, 2011 -- Two of Little Gems Ranch's
horses made their show debut and one added more ribbons to his
collection today. Br Shes-Nu and Opal Iza Little Gem showed that
even first time horses can make a good showing as they won the hearts
and respect at the Lone Star Arabian Halter Futurity. Al Holm Al
Massey rounded out the group and showed that even having missed most of
the season he had not lost any of his ring manners.
"What surprised me the most about Smokey," Alan commented after the show
speaking about Br-Shes-Nu, "was he completely seemed at ease. He never
acted like a stallion, behaved wonderfully and never gave us even a moment's
trouble. This was his very first show, he has not been off the ranch
except to go to the vet. He acted like he's been doing this every week.
One of the judges even looked to check that he was male!" Br Shes-Nu took
a third place in the 3-year old stallion class.
Opal Iza Little Gem made a strong showing in the weanling class and
impressed even the judge on the in hand trail course. Opal took second in the
2-year old mares. When it was time for the in hand trail class, Opal's
only flaws where when Karen knocked down a cross tie and when she would not
cross the tarp. She finished 5th in the class.
The "old pro" who is now in his second year, Al Holm Al Massey, performed
great and if he had less endurance build would have scored higher in the 2-year
old halter class. But judges are looking for a show confirmation and not
the trail confirmation, so he brought home a 2nd place ribbon there. But
in the in hand trail he was the first horse to walk across the tarp and the only
mark down was Alan using the wrong hand to open the gate. He brought home
second place in that event.
